Has anyone tried just using the Internal GPS in an IPAD or is the external reciever vital?

Thanks

Paul.

I am using iPad 3 with a GNS 5870 which works perfectly. You get a suction mount with the GNS so can just stick it in the screen where ever is best. It doesn't require any apps or anything like that, just pairs on bluetooth.

I also have a 172 and using a RAM yolk mount which is again perfect. To be able to get the best configuration / least obstruction I got the standard yolk RAM mount plus a 3" extension piece which allows me to mount with the arm under the yolk and get a great angle of the screen.

I use the IPad2 with the Dual Universal GPS.

Mount the IPad on a RAM mount on the yoke with the Dual in its non slip holder on the top of the dash panel. Works flawlessly - used it for the first time with my first flight in the R112 Olympics airspace.

I chose the Dual because if has an inbuilt capacity to Bluetooth directly with the IPad.

No sign of Jets or Helicopters, so I have absolute faith in the system, can't praise it enough.

I have used both GNS 5870 and Dual XGPS150A with IPAD2 and both works flawlessly. Some report issues with the GNS that it is difficult to turn of with the swipe function, and indeed I also had issues with it but seemed to manage though. The XGPS150A can also be used with Android and other units.

I use the GNS 5870 MFI with iPad 2 (no GPS) in a PA28 (yoke mount) and Bulldog (knee pad) and reception has been 100% - I would recommend this one, although cannot comment on the Bad Elf.

I have an Ipad 3 (without built in GPS) has anyone any experience using either of the 2 GPS (Bad elf and GNS) in a Cessna 172 on a yoke mount?

I want to make sure the one I buy will work OK before ordering it. Thanks in advance
